Start from the sample
Loudgrain opens with a measured bundled sample and a calibrated 1 kHz tone, so it is fully usable offline the moment it launches. Use these to see the metrics before you add your own audio.
Add your audio
Tap Add audio to import WAV, AIFF, CAF, or M4A files through the system file picker. Each file is decoded and measured locally and added to your batch.
Read a measurement
Select an item to view integrated, momentary, and short-term loudness, loudness range, and the 4x-oversampled true peak, plus a short-term loudness curve against the current target.
Choose a target
Open Targets and pick a reference — Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube, EBU R128, ATSC A/85, or podcast — to see the gain to reach the integrated target and the peak-safe gain that keeps the true peak under the ceiling.
Compare a batch
Keep several measurements side by side to compare albums, podcasts, stems, and deliverables. Loudgrain measures and plans only; it does not change your source files.
Export a report
Export a plain-text loudness report through Apple's system share sheet and choose where it goes. Everything else stays in the app's local container.
Local data
Your batch saves automatically on the device. Loudgrain has no login or sync service. Device backups and exported reports are controlled through Apple and the destinations you choose.
Before contacting support
Include the device model, iOS or iPadOS version, Loudgrain version, the screen involved, and reproducible steps. You do not need to share your audio unless you deliberately choose to.
Frequently asked
Does Loudgrain need an account or the internet? No. There is no sign-in and no network connection. Every feature runs offline on your device.
Does Loudgrain change my audio? No. It measures and plans only. Your source files are never modified, normalized, or re-encoded, and the planned gain is a number for your own mastering chain.
How is true peak estimated? Loudgrain estimates true peak from 4x oversampling of the decoded signal. Like all inter-sample peak estimates, it is an estimate, not a guaranteed inter-sample maximum.
Which files can I add? WAV, AIFF, CAF, and M4A files that AVFoundation can decode on your device.
Is there an in-app purchase or subscription? No. The paid download includes the full tool, with no ads, in-app purchases, or subscriptions.
Boundary
Loudgrain is a measurement and planning aid, not a certified compliance meter. Its loudness and true-peak values are on-device estimates. Verify regulated broadcast or mastering deliverables with calibrated, validated tools and the applicable delivery specification before you ship.
